While many of us experience governments as unwelcome interferers into our personal freedom, governments, and their principle agents, the police and the military, will be needed probably forever. Only romantic dreamers advocate their dissolution.
The principal purpose of governments is to provide safety. And in order to provide a high degree of safety, governments must be strong. It's an illusionist idea that there would ever be peace without strong governments. The alternative would only be local mafias ruling it over more docile members of a society.
The concept outlined above, of course, is not new. It can be traced back to Thomas Hobbes, and even ancient Greek philosophy.
